• Lack of networks between NGO’s, governmental structures and the private sector)
  • Lack of knowledge about other countries and institutions and programmes of, among others, the European Union and the Council of Europe (and vice versa)
  • Lack of international contacts at all levels
  • Lack of domestic and regional contacts and networks
Some of these challenges are present in both East and West, but some of them are very specific for the region. The Knot therefore develops a strategy for this region. The aims of this strategy are the following:
  • Building and empowering the NGO sector in the CIS region
  • Stimulating democratic leadership at local and regional levels
  • Stimulating regional, national and international cooperation and networking
  • Helping the development of democratic and participatory policies
  • Building cross-cultural bridges between the CIS countries and the EU
  • Stimulating the development of democratic, transparent and need fulfilling NGO’s
  • Gathering and distributing information about NGO work within the region and between the ‘East’ and the ‘West’
  • Improving cooperation between non-governmental, governmental and private sector
